AP releases new stylebook, acknowledges Wikipedia's existance

The Associated Press announced this past week that it has put together a new stylebook, with over 200 changes made in this edition, including the edition of words like "iPhone" and "Wikipedia." The book, which has 66 more pages than the 2004 edition, is the default standard for many print journalist around the country. In journalism class, we learned how to use the stylebook to look up different terms, figure out how we're supposed to write certain terms (like "web site" instead of "website").

The book can be incredibly frustrating, when they give very vague answers as to how to write something. There have been a couple times where all the editors look over a term and are in complete befuddlement of how to interpret the stylebook's definition to our context.

However, there is one great part about the 2008 edition which will make it worth buying: the press release says that it is a spiral-bound book. Which will make it much easier to leave laying open while editing a story. Copy editors, rejoice!
