It's 2008 when... a newspaper makes online documentary

The Star-Ledger has made a 13-minute online documentary.

Whether or not this is the first time a newspaper has done such a long-form video project for the web, I don't know. I can't imagine it can be the first, yet, I don't know who would be.

13 minutes is pretty long for a web video. However, that rule usually applies for entertainment programs. The rules have not yet been written for Internet news videos.

It's a very interesting project. With more training - and maybe an extra night in Avid - the documentary could have been a little slicker, sharper and faster. But it's a terrific first effort. And I love how the reporter doesn't tell you the story: the people are so talkative, they talk you through the story. Then it becomes more than just a normal news magazine report. It becomes something a little more real
