Another Summer, '07 Update

(Part I can be found here.)
Summer has been pretty good to me.

Here's the family on Father's Day.

I went to see the Russ' softball team play for the first time, ever.
And I've been with them for four years, too!

The Birn family invited some people up to their cottage in Ludington.

It's not an actual tornado, it's a "scud cloud," a cloud that looks like one.
This was hovering over Lake Michigan up at Ludington.

One nice thing about summer is seeing just how beautiful this short trail is
at our church. It leads to a columbarium, which is right by some woods.
It's a very, very pretty sight.

Fennec Fox had another concert, this time at the Grandville Library.

As far as I know, this was my last wedding I'm going to this year.
(Pictured are the bride with co-workers, of whom I am one.)

I also had a few more scenes in which I was a movie extra. Pretty snazzy stuff!

John and I went to Binder Park Zoo, which is definitely worth the drive,
if only for the giraffes!

I finally went to the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival fireworks...
They were also worth the hype.

I went exploring one of the open parts of Millennium Park (MI).
It's not much, yet, but it has tremendous promise and should be really cool.

My cousin, Krystin, was up here from Texas for a while. This picture
shows all the cousins - sans Grant, who is represented by the balloon.

Here the kids are at the grave of President Gerald R. Ford.
We weren't sure how you pose for such a picture, so, they frowned.

We went up to the sand dunes at Silver Lake.
I'm still finding sand in pockets.

The Grand Haven Musical Fountain.
Did you know you can download software and program your
own songs for the fountain? 'Tis true!

  1. So tell me, how in the world did you wind up being an extra in a movie? Which movie? Where?

  2. GVSU's film program this summer undertook an ambitious project: making a full-length feature film, the first time ANY college in Michigan has done so. (And rushing to film all of it in the summer, no less!) It's called "To Live and Die in Dixie," and is about a murder in the 80's in the deep south. The murderer is so popular and so well-liked that he is found not-guilty, so a woman spends the next few years proving his guilt, losing her family and job in the process. (It's based on a true story.)

GVSU put out calls for extras on TV, apparently, but also on Craigslist, where I saw the ad, responded to it and they sent out a couple e-mails with dates and asked what days would work for me to be there.

I have been a extra in these scenes:
    - Before a basketball game
    - During two basketball games
    - After a basketball game
    - During a church service (a segregated, white's-only church)
    - After a church service
    - A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a bridge, where I was there along with the film's university president and a state represenative. So, therefore, I must have been a pretty important dignitary!

The film will be released in Grand Rapids next April, but there's talk that they may try to enter it into different film festivals. If there are any DVD's made in the future, I'll try to put up some screen grabs. Or I'll snag a copy and sent it your way, assuming the movie is halfway good. :)
